Kindred Kitchen: Sovereign Chocolates

March 1, 2018 by 918 Plate 1 Comment

Welcome to the first installment of Kindred Kitchen! You know how most of my posts include a Local Spotlight? Well, consider this one big, huge floodlight! I am so excited to bring you this non-recipe (!) post today about Sovereign Chocolates. Abigail and Chanel are the masterminds behind this amazing bean-to-bar chocolate company that makes their chocolate right here in Tulsa! They have been a part of the most recent class of Kitchen 66, a program that helps food businesses get off the ground. We got in touch and I promptly invited myself to the Kitchen 66 into their space to see their magic at work!

This recipe for a pitcher of margarita always gets the party started!

I really hope that this isn’t supposed to be a “secret…” Because I’ve been telling people. My bonus dad’s margarita recipe has a little something extra: a splash of Monster. There is nearly always two pitchers in their fridge: one of lemonade, and one of margaritas…Which…is honestly a pretty good way to live life. …

Grilled Shrimp “Boil”

This is like your favorite shrimp boil, but you don’t have to heat up your stove – it’s grilling season!

This is like your favorite shrimp boil, but you don't have to heat up your stove – it's grilling season!

One of my favorite Greek events in college was PIKE’s shrimp boil. I guess mainly because it’s a super southern thing, and I’d never really heard of it before coming to college and so it was cool and new. And also…I love shrimp. The only part that I didn’t love about it was that over-boiled corn gets shrively and it’s not quite as good as it could be. So I got to thinking – there’s not many things better in life than grilled corn. Why don’t I just grill the whole thing? Thus, the grilled shrimp boil was born.

Kilkenny’s Copycat: Shamrock Spuds

October 1, 2015 by 918 Plate 15 Comments

Take a look at how adorable these potatoes are. They’re PURPLE! I had no idea. They looked like normal red potatoes on the outside, and then I cut them open and was pleasantly surprised by their rich color. I got them from my trusty potato people at the farmers market.

This easy spud appetizer will be a sure crowd-pleaser and remind you of Kilkenny’s Irish Pub in Tulsa, OK!
This recipe is a copycat from one of our favorite spots, Kilkenny’s Irish Pub. Whenever we have friends with us, Justin always likes to order Shamrock Spuds to “treat” everyone. Basically, he thinks they’re the greatest. They are baby potatoes topped with an Irish rasher of bacon and white cheddar cheese. It is also served with sour cream on the side, which Justin especially loves. He’s not a sour cream fan, and this way, it doesn’t ruin any of the potatoes!…

Porter Peach Crisp

Peach Crisp | 918 Plate

First off, I apologize for falling off the face of the earth for two weeks. A combination of things being busy around here and a couple of recipes not panning out quite in the way I anticipated, led to me falling behind! Hopefully I’ve jumped back on the wagon!

We took a gander to the Porter Peach Festival a couple weeks ago. Porter is a little farm town about 45 minutes outside of Tulsa. Their peaches are famous. In Colorado, it was all about the Palisade Peaches. Here in Oklahoma, I’ve always heard about the infamous Porter Peach. It must be a requirement to grow peaches that your town starts with a P.
