Completely constructed from local finds, this patriotic parfait will have you waving the flag of surrender to this fruity treat!
You can’t celebrate Flag Day properly without a Patriotic Parfait! Plus, it’s a “twofer” because you can also do it again for the 4th of July! Or in the UK. Or France. Or Texas. Or even North Korea. Truly, red white and blue is a popular flag combination, if we’re being honest. That’s why I named it Patriotic Parfait, because the original name was Flag Day Parfait (but who searches for that, right?!). (Also, if you’re unfamiliar with a twofer, it’s a shortcut for the phrase “two for one.” Oklahoman lesson of the day.)
I have loved flags my whole life. I used to have a poster of the flags of the world in my house. I was THAT child. The greatest game to ever grace Facebook was called GeoChallenge. An app by the same name (not the same game, unfortunately) is now on my phone for moments of weakness learning. So. If you want to know all the other red, white and blue flags like I did, I took the liberty of looking them up for you: you’re welcome.
Flag Day is a severely underrated holiday. It’s June 14 in the US, in case you weren’t sure. It commemorates the adoption of the flag in 1777. But it is also considered the Army’s birthday. And it’s not a federal holiday so it doesn’t affect your trash pick-up schedule (yay, adulthood has such huge things to be happy about). We like to go camping for that weekend. It’s like the real start to the summer!
I’m so proud that I can say this entire recipe was found last week at the farmers market! Summer is official in full swing around here (aka it’s freaking hot) and so many vendors have berries already! The blackberries were enormous and gorgeous – you’ll definitely want to check those out. And of course, another appearance from the probiotic granola that was also featured in these granola bars!
Take these measurements lightly, as it will depend on the cup you use on how much of everything! But these ingredients should be enough to make two parfaits in small (about 6oz?) wine glasses.
I hope you #enJOY your non-federal holiday!
Do you celebrate any obscure holidays?
xxHillary

Gorgeous and delicious! I’m feeling more patriotic already! I’ll add “Texas independence day” to the list of holidays you mentioned…oh yes, that’s a thing too. To be honest, I’ll celebrate any time, any day. Especially with these goodies!

I had a flag poster in my room too! Haha.. I used to try to memorize all the flags as I blew dry my hair in the mornings. And this looks like it would be tasty any time in the summer.. Yum!
That’s awesome! Yes – that is basically my life. I also had a placemat with all the states and capitals.
It was amazing! I even served in my Dad’s birthday party and the guests loved it! They did not believe that it was healthy!!
Oh I’m so happy to hear that! Berries and yogurt are really the perfect pair!
